Is it easy to open an offshore bank account?

Opening an offshore corporate bank account is not as simple as it used to be said 10 years ago.

• Firstly because most reputable banks have a “know your clients” due diligence process which make bank account opening process more difficult than before.

• Secondly because the offer of offshore banks have multiplied to a point where it is difficult for the neophyte to distinguish good banks from bad banks and this is why we are here to assist you.

Truth is that

• Offshore banks selling point is absolute privacy and protection against creditors or foreign government’s claims and actions.

• Very few jurisdictions nowadays can offer absolute privacy and asset protection.

Is Bank Secrecy and Privacy the most important criteria when opening an offshore bank account?

The tourism destination of the futur

As I was saying is that Myanmar is about to become one of the preferred destination of foreign tourists in South East Asia. When you see that Thailand, a country which can be compared in term of size, and numbers of inhabitants, as well as in attractive sightseeing location is at more 20,000,000 tourists per year while Myanmar was last year at barely a 1,000,000 you can imagine the potential of Myanmar.

Latest statistics are showing that through April, 253,136 foreign visitors arrived at Yangon airport, 67,460 of them Europeans, the Myanmar Times reported. Among European arrivals, France was the main source market followed by Britain and Germany, according to Ministry of Hotels and Tourism figures.

About 60% of all arrivals in the main commercial city were from Asia, led by Thailand, Japan, South Korea and China. Of the total arrivals, 64% were tourists and the remainder was business travelers.

The increase in visitors was largely attributed to political and economic reforms undertaken by the government since 2011.”Last year more than a million tourists visited the country (through all entry points),” said Aung Myat Kyaw, chairman of Union of Myanmar Travel Association. “Since Myanmar is an increasingly popular destination, I believe arrival numbers will be 50% more than last year.”

Now this is a trend that will continue for years and this means that Myanmar where hotel occupancy rates are reaching 85 to 95% of occupancy all year around needs more hotels and that even if new rooms are put on the market every year the rates of occupancy will remain unusually high for several years to come as the demand will increase the offer for at least the next 10 years

Si vous êtes nouveau à faire des affaires au Myanmar, il va vous falloir un peu de temps pour vous acclimater au système local, mais laissez-moi vous dire ceci, la situation s’est grandement améliorée.

Le Kyat

La monnaie locale est appelée Myanmar Kyat  (MMK). Cette monnaie a été introduite dans le pays en 1852 et il y a aura beaucoup de changements depuis. À un moment donné, ils ont même imprimé des billets de banque de 88 kyats parce que c’était un bon numéro qui portait chance à en croire les  voyants du dictateur de l’époque.

Le FEC

Ensuite, il y a ce que nous appelons la FEC ou le Certificat de Change Etranger qui a été introduit pour tenter de remplacer le dollar en 1998. Le FEC doit être abolie en 2013.

Le Dollar Américain

Le dollar US était et est toujours la monnaie d’échange étrangère préférée, mais les dollars américains en espèces ne peuvent être utilisés légalement par les habitants que dans les établissements autorisés à accepter des dollars américains. Alors que les banques vont aussi acheter des euros et des dollars de Singapour, pour toutes les opérations courantes il est préférable d’utiliser des dollars américains.

Taux de change

Avant le premier April 2012, le «taux de change officiel» était d’environ 6,00 kyats pour un dollar américain (non ce n’est pas une blague);

Le régime du taux de change officiel qui ne servait à rien et constituait une entrave à l’investissement étranger a été abandonnée le 1er Avril 2012 en faveur d’un taux de change basé sur le marché.

Le taux de change au marché libre en Novembre 2012 était d’environ 850 kyats pour un dollar américain.

Le taux de change est un élément important pour les investisseurs étrangers qui font des affaires en Birmanie parce que certains types d’investissement vont nécessiter qu’une partie du capital soit “importé” en quantités déterminées par le taux du marché (vous comprendrez l’intérêt de l’abandon de l’ancien système où une partie de l’investissement devait être à fait à la parité de 1 USD pour 6 Kyat)

Number of Tourists visiting Yangon to increase dramatically

As a result of the liberalization of the country last year 600,000 tourists visited Yangon next year this number will be 900,000 or more. Now Yangon rooms’ capacity including the new rooms to come on the market in 2013 is enough to accommodate 700,000 tourists only

As we have been saying for the past 6 months if one wants to make a safe and profitable investment in Myanmar hotel sectors is definitively the way to go with room nights average rate that have doubled last year and an occupancy ratio of 90% all year around ( compared to the situation in Bangkok).

Add to this that the new investment law has been finally adopted by the parliament with the option of leaseholds of 70 years duration with an initial period of 50 years then 10 + 10 all the ingredients are now in place for a successful investment in Myanmar.

Il y a une pléthore de banques offshores

Quand vient le temps de choisir votre banque offshore, le fait est qu’il ya une pléthore de banques entre lesquelles vous pouvez choisir. Cela étant dit, au bout du compte le choix à faire est entre une banque offshore ou une banque dite commerciale.

Le paradoxe actuel est qu’il est plus facile d’ouvrir un compte bancaire offshore avec une banque commerciale qu’avec une banque offshore. En effet les banques offshores  ont font  l’objet d’une telle surveillance  ces dernières années qu’elles ont du augmenter leurs exigences en termes de documents pour s’acheter une bonne conduite. On en est arrivé à un point ou il est devenu plus facile à ouvrir un compte avec une banque commerciale de premier ordre comme HSBC qu’avec une banque offshore inconnu.

Le second paradoxe est qu’une banque commerciale comme HSBC vous offre plus d’options et de services qu’une banque offshore et que les tarifs d’HSBC  seront moins coûteux à l’usage que les tarifs d’une banque offshore inconnue. En outre, vous pourrez bien dormir la nuit en sachant que vos fonds sont en sécurité. Alors qu’avec les banques offshore vous avez les bonnes banques et les mauvaises et il n’y a aucun moyen de savoir à l’avance (à moins que vous passiez par les services d’un professionnel si la banque que vous aurez choisi sera encore la demain.

Services bancaires en ligne et sécurité

Là encore, de nombreuses banques offshores ont un système de banque en ligne qui ne s’appui que sur un mot de passe et que si quelqu’un craque votre mot de passe, il peut, en théorie, accéder à votre système de banque en ligne ce qui présente des risques.

HSBC offre un des meilleures service bancaire en ligne qui repose sur un mot de basse et une « token » soit une commande électronique qui vous est remis par la banque et que vous devez utiliser pour effectuer vos opérations en toute sécurité.   Un hacker peut pirater votre mot de passe, mais il ne sera jamais en mesure de faire une transaction sans la possession de la «token» physique. En outre HSBC vient de changer la « Token » de tous ses clients de services bancaires en ligne avec un nouveau modèle encore plus sûre et plus complexe pour une sécurité accrue

Enfin HSBC banque en ligne est facile à utiliser tout en permettant à l’utilisateur de faire un nombre illimité d’opérations (virements, paiements,  investissements …..) ce qui n’est pas le cas de toutes les banques.

24/7 Services Bancaires

Il est vrai que l’option  banque en ligne vous permet d’accéder à vos comptes bancaires 24 heures  sur 24 et 7 jours sur 7.  Cela ne signifie toutefois pas que vous pourrez effectuer vos opérations bancaires 24 heures  sur 24 et 7 jours sur 7. En effet les paiements et les opérations de changes ne sont effectués que du lundi au vendredi pendant les heures d’ouverture des banques. En d’autres termes, vous pouvez préparer vos paiements un dimanche, mais ils ne seront exécutées aux heures d’ouverture des banques.

Enfin, ce n’est pas un film il ne faut pas s’attendre à ce que les fonds que vous transférez depuis votre compte à Hong Kong vont être en un clin d’œil crédités sur votre compte aux Seychelles ou en Suisse. Il faut encore quelques heures pour que l’opération soit exécutée.

Nous recommandons HSBC de Hong Kong

Ce ne sera pas une surprise si vous avez lu cet article attentivement de voire que nous recommandons HSBC Hong Kong comme la meilleure banque disponible pour ceux qui souhaitent ouvrir un compte bancaire offshore. Étant précisé toutefois qu’HSBC Hong Kong n’ouvre pas de comptes bancaires personnels à distance, mais seulement des comptes bancaires sociétés  à distance (aucune banque à Hong Kong n’ouvre de comptes personnels à distance). Quoi qu’il en soit, nous vous recommandons de toute façon de ne plus ouvrir de comptes offshores personnels et au lieu de choisir une option Société + compte en banque pour plus de confidentialité et de sécurité.

A noter que le service d’ouverture de compte a distance avec HSBC Hong Kong
